What to Wear to Every Unconventional Holiday Party

Not celebrating like everyone else? Here's the low-down on what to wear to a non-basic Christmas party.

Rockin’ around the tree a little differently this month? We often celebrate the holidays with Secret Santa gifts and ugly sweaters, but not all parties stick to tradition. If you’re partying the non-traditional way this year, we’ve rounded up some trendy holiday outfit ideas so you're covered for just about every unconventional holiday soiree. From cruise parties to music festivals, scroll down for style tips on what to wear to a Christmas party that’s anything but basic.

NOT-SO-CORPORATE OFFICE PARTY

Just started a new job at a company with an ~artsy~ environment? Creative companies (e.g. advertising, fashion, entertainment) usually allow flexible dress codes for holiday parties-or even encourage it. Don’t be afraid to skip that ugly sweater for something less itchy and more on-trend, like graphic sweatshirts, fur coats, or leather shirts.

What to avoid? That 9-to-5 suit you hate ironing.

WILD HOLIDAY CLUB & RAVE PARTIES

Ready to blow off some steam while feeling that bass drop during the holidays? Keep in mind, what to wear to a Christmas party at a club versus a rave will vary depending on the theme and venue. For holiday raves/festivals (Contact, HiJinx, Decadence, etc.), consider breathable statement pieces that allow you to dance. Bring a bag so you can take off extra layers at the event. If you’re hitting up an exclusive nightclub (Hakkasan, LIV, TAO, etc.), consider pieces that are both edgy and upscale.

Don't forget: you can take any nightlife outfit to the next level with men's makeup, like gold body glitter or metallic nail polish, for a dramatic effect underneath those strobe lights.

What to avoid? Those shoes that give you blisters.

XXXMAS LINGERIE PARTY FOR 2

Ditching the normcore holiday dinner date for something a little spicier? No matter what relationship stage you're in, you can make the night more exciting with men's lingerie, like our exclusive Slitted Red Velvet Robe. For something more festive, you can't go wrong with provocative holiday onesies that come with naughty slogans or easy-access bum flaps. The best part: you get to eat takeout in your undies.

What to avoid? Pissing off bae.

RESORT & CRUISE CHRISTMAS PARTIES

Not sure what to wear to a Christmas party in the Caribbean? Regardless if you're on a ship or at a resort, we suggest packing flexible items appropriate for your destination, such as short shorts and camp shirts. Just can’t holiday without a Christmas sweater? As long as you'll be reveling in an air-conditioned space, you can get away with chunky knitwear in sleeveless styles (sans pit stains). For those poolside moments, try festive swimwear designed in holiday-approved metallics fit for both Christmas and New Year’s Eve pool parties.

What to avoid? WiFi. Sign off. Vacation on.
